Old Pale Heights on the Sandstone Ridge is well worth the climb.
Rising to a height of 176 metres and situated to the south of the area of Delamere Forest, the views are quite spectacular.
However, few may have realised that the site is also of considerable historic significance, not least because of:
- Eddisbury Hill Fort — the largest and most complex of seven hill forts in Cheshire and which dates back to the Iron Age, and
- Hidden away on land belonging to United Utilities and inaccessible to the public, is a trig point; close to which began the mapping of Britain
