aboutbutterfly

The weather has been sensational on the Cheshire Sandstone Ridge during last few weeks. albeit that much needed rain showers have been rolling in over the last few days.

We're certainly seeing more butterflies, so a timely reminder that the 2023 Big Butterfly Count runs from 14 July – 6 August – SAVE THE DATE.

The importance of butterflies cannot be overstated; they are excellent pollinators.

Sadly, however, the deterioration of habitats and overuse of pesticides means that they are under assault.

Recent surveys have shown a decline in many of the UK's insect species.

By taking part in the Big Butterfly Count, you can help experts to build an up-to-date picture of the health of the species and ascertain what needs the most urgent help.

All that's required is to count the butterflies that you might see for just 15 minutes, preferably on a sunny, dry day.

All the counts can also be viewed on an interactive map.
