Autumn and the sight and sound of thousands of pink-footed geese flying overhead, skein after skein, honking as they go, is an absolute joy.

There was tremendous movement yesterday with high flying geese in their distinctive V-style flight formations working their way across the Cheshire Sandstone Ridge.

Approximately 400,000 pink-footed geese overwinter in the UK.

Their journey ordinarily starts in Iceland where they will have spent the summer months. Then as the temperature and food levels drop they take off, eventually arriving on our shores.

So, dust off the binoculars and don't miss one of the true joys of the season. To hear their distinctive call CLICK HERE.
