Staff at Beeston Castle on The Sandstone Ridge have made a remarkable discovery.

Hidden with the walls of this historic attraction they have discovered a named and dated note, crudely written and hidden, and undiscovered for the last 55 years!

The note which appears to have been written on 21 August 1964 by 25 year-old Stonemason, Martin Goulding, and which appears to have been tucked within a matchbox, has sparked a search on social media using the hashtag #TheSearchforMartinGoulding.

The note was found secreted in one of the walls in the toilet block, which is currently being refurbished.

Castle staff posted on Facebook: 'Here it is. Our latest discovery. Our recent visitors will have noticed we are refurbishing our very worn and deteriorated toilet block. We have found a tiny note, hidden deep in the walls by stonemason Martin Goulding 55 years ago'.

Staff want to invite 79 year-old Martin back to the Castle as a 'THANK YOU' from all the staff and visitors at the castle and want to share with him how the project he worked on decades ago has developed.

Staff added 'We would love to find him and invite him back to Beeston. Help us find him folks!
