We are all aware of elves and fairy sprites from Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream ... but read on ...

We have been sent information which appeared in The Cheshire Observer as early as 4 January 1879.

The original article was written by James F Robinson, who was a chemist, druggist and botanist and the shop of whom was located on Main Street, in Frodsham.

The work of this extraordinary man is recorded by Arthur R Smith in his book 'Brief Lives'.

James F Robinson lived in Mickledale which is located at the north end of The Sandstone Ridge and to the east of Helsby.

The language, whilst poetic, gives an insight into the history and nuances of The Sandstone Ridge.
