The 6th June 2024 marks the 80th anniversary of D-Day, when the Allied forces mounted the amphibious invasion of Normandy.

Operation Overlord saw approximately 4,000 ships and landing craft set down approximately 133,000 troops on the five beaches of Normandy (Sword, Juno, Utah, Omaha and Gold).

These actions resulted in the start of the liberation of France and north west Europe from the tyranny of Nazism.

A Beacon Lighting event to mark this historic occasion took place at Beeston Castle at 9pm.
