Footprint on the Ridge

Old Lowndes

Some years ago, one of our Trustees, together with other volunteers, researched the story of 'Old Lowndes' and his connection with the Cheshire Sandstone Ridge.

We are now including this remarkable piece of work in our 'Footprints on the Ridge'.

It is a fascinating read ...

A reference included .... The shades of evening were quickly spreading round us. As we came along I could almost fancy the form of Old Lowndes rocking to and fro in the distance.

Readers may have wondered who was 'Old Lowndes' and why he was rocking.

His ghost was rocking in a gibbet, suspended on Helsby Hill.
