Part-Time Communications Officer Vacancy

We are currently advertising for a Part-Time Communications Officer to assist us in:

  • Co-ordinating the production, distribution and evaluation of communications to promote the DEFRA funded project — The Sandstone Ridge Farmer Network
  • Innovate and build on existing communication channels to increase engagement and widen support for the work of the Sandstone Ridge Trust and its partners along the Sandstone Ridge
  • Initiate and maintain a constant flowing conversation about the Sandstone Ridge Farmer Network, and the work of Reaseheath College of Agriculture, the Sandstone Ridge Trust and partners to conserve and enhance the landscape of the Sandstone Ridge

The principal tasks

  • Engage and maintain effective working relationships with Reaseheath College of Agriculture, The Sandstone Ridge Trust, and members of the Sandstone Ridge Farmers Network
  • Identify and research case studies, stories, events, activities, and achievements, including using images, audio, and video
  • Develop content to disseminate in a targeted way on the most appropriate communication channels, including, the Sandstone Ridge website, Facebook and Twitter, local community newsletters, and local press and media
  • Produce regular analytics reports for website and social media, making adjustments to improve the effectiveness of communications
  • Comply with the data protection regulations, ensuring that information on members, partners, employees and volunteers remains confidential
  • Attend regular monitoring meetings and/or other duties as directed

What skills do you need?

  • An interest in farming, rural and conservation issues
  • Good interpersonal skills to foster collaborative working with colleagues, partners and members of the Farmer Network
  • Ability to communicate effectively, be articulate, with strong writing skills
  • Ability to identify the key issues in any piece of copy and use editing, design and layout skills to bring them out clearly
  • Experience of producing materials for print and online publication
  • Experience of collating and analysing data to monitor trends
  • Excellent IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft packages
  • Experience of maintaining an organisation's social media profile
  • Good understanding of how websites work, and experience of using content management systems

How much time do you need to commit?

  • The role is flexible and will involve up to five hours per week @ £15 per hour
  • In the first instance, the post will last for three years

What support will you be given?

  • Appropriate support and supervision in your role, including any training required, for example, in the bespoke website content management system
  • You will be responsible to a member of the Trustee Board
  • Trustees will be available to give you support, advice and guidance
